Julie Fitzgerald – Ottawa Valley Stepdancing / Introductory Adult Violin I

Julie Fitzgerald is an award-winning fiddler and step dancer. She is a member of the family group “Everything Fitz”. She was the first of the Fitzgerald children to take lessons in step dancing and fiddling. She won her very first competition at the Ontario Open at the age of six- after only 6 months of lessons! Over the years, she has garnered numerous awards in both fiddle and dance. She is a two-time Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion (2009 & 2010). She was also the 2010 and 2011 Ontario Open Step Dancing Champion and undefeated in the 2011 competition season in the Open Dance Class.

On full scholarship, Julie is currently in her third year of studies at Humber College in Toronto where she is pursuing a degree in Jazz and Contemporary Music. In addition to fiddle, Julie plays piano, mandolin and cello. She has written fiddle tunes and enjoys arranging music for her family band. She also teaches dance and fiddle to students in the Toronto and Peterborough area.

At the age of 22, Julie has enjoyed an extensive performing history. She toured across Canada with the Memories of a Don Messer Jubilee Show as guest dancer and 2nd fiddler when she was only 12 years old, and again at the age of 16. In 2009, she was guest dancer with Leahy performing in the Eastern U.S. She was principal fiddler with the stage show “Magic of Ireland” in 2011 and made a guest appearance on the Glory of Scotland Show staged at the MacMillan Theatre at the University of Toronto (2011). Julie has also done studio work for Howard Baer, a world-renowned composer and arranger. Julie recently travelled to Japan on a tour with Stepcrew (Dec. 2011).  She will be joining Stepcrew again in Winter/Spring 2012.
